Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We are requesting input as to Simon's heritage from experienced Shar pei people. So far as of Jan 21, 2 have stated he is a mix and 1 has stated he is purebred. If he is a mix, we do not know the contributing other half. With his wrinkly brow and super sized muzzle, Simon has been a head turner since his arrival this past week. Simon is a young 45 pound boy deep chocolate shar pei mix who is gentle and calm. Upon intake, he was reported to be friendly with dogs. He is in 10 day quarantine and will soon be neutered. He cannot leave the shelter until his recovery period is complete. He has been very friendly and sweet with staff and ... (Read More)volunteers. We do not know if he was housebroken, crate trained, cat and/or child friendly in his former life. We do not know what other breed (s) may be part of his heritage nor his exact age though his teeth indicate him to be a young adult. Chocolate brown is one of the coat colors for the shar pei breed. As we learn more about behaviors and vetting outcomes, his profile will be updated. All applicants wishing to be considered for adoption must complete the application form (request with email) which initiates the approval process. The form can be returned through Facebook Messages or at the office of the shelter. Dalmatian Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

RJ spends 22 hours a day inside a run looking out at the world and waiting for the 2 hours of freedom in the play yards if weather is good. This has been his world for 2 years. RJ is sponsored with a subsidized fee of $25. RJ is a charismatic speckled boy who loves, loves, loves people. He should not be with cats-he will hurt them. He is very selective about the dogs to which he will be receptive so it is unlikely he will be adopted into a home with another dog though that is a point open to discussion. Bottom photo in his collage shows his former girlfriend receiving his kisses. After her adoption he became more dominant and at times very ... (Read More)aggressive with some dogs so he has not been outside with another dog in over a year. A securely fenced yard is required. RJ loves to give kisses (see video at link) and to take long walks. RJ was pulled from Animal Control in Dec 2014 and he has waited many long days to leave his concrete home behind him. RJ is 3 1/2 years old and has lived in our shelter for two years. In this season of Christmas miracles, we have great hopes that Chili will be chosen to have a home and end her long wait to have love in her life. Chili is sponsored with a subsidized fee of $25. Her body clearly had nursed several litters with the last one being very recent to her arrival. This gentled spirited girl is happiest when invited to 'go for a ride' and when outside playing with her friend Buddy. She loves her caretakers and is appreciative of attention. She does best with other dogs of medium to large build. She is rather low energy and content to be at the side of her friends without a requirement for entertainment. A video of Chile playing with Buddy, can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/1029543687089897/?type=2&theater . Chili is spayed, fully vaccinated, and negative for heartworms. She is 4 1/2 years old as of Oct 4, 2016. She has a sponsor who subsidized her fee to $25. All adoptions require an approval process which is initiated with the form at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/984873884890211/?type=3&theater . Rescue Me ID: 16-11-26-00317Smokey Joe (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/26506831 Video at Petfinder link. Smokey Joe spends 22 hours a day inside a run looking out at the world and waiting for the 2 hours of freedom in the play yards if weather is good. This has been his world for 3 1/2 years. Smokey Joe is sponsored with a subsidized fee of $25. Joe (age 5yrs) has waited the longest of all our dogs for the person(s) and home that has eluded him. He lives for the moments that a staff member can play with him or that a volunteer can walk him in the neighboring woods. When weather is good, he has 2 hours outside to run within the fenced play yard. The other 22 hours are spent ... (Read More)in a kennel run, waiting...hoping...for the person who never comes. He initially came in as a tiny puppy, was adopted and returned fifteen months later in June 2013. He was returned because the other dog in the house continually attacked him. Joe came back to us with a fear of leashes that subsided with time and patience of each those who earned his trust. When he is with his favorite people, he wiggles with joy and one can see the glimpse of the younger Joe who believed in love and forever companionship. Joe is a strong dog weighing in at 77 lbs. An adult only household is being sought with an experienced dog person. Potential adopters are evaluated carefully as we know that there are a limited amount of people with the dog savvy experience required to share life with Joe. He will not be adopted into homes with children or other dogs. To date, we have not been able to find that person(s). Joe will be a loyal and protective companion who will give his life to defend the person he loves. A secure fenced yard is required for Joe. Joe was housetrained before relinquishment but unknown how quickly he will remember those skills.
