Rescue Me ID: 14-08-04-00498Beanie (female)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Beanie will soon achieve the sad distinction of having lived at the CSHS shelter for 3 years come 18 Oct 2014. Though we can celebrate that Beanie has been in a safe environment during this time, 3 years without a home is not what we desire for any of our residents. Forever happiness seems to always be just out of reach for Beanie. Many inquiries in response to extensive publicity, but the few that come to visit, decide against her. Beanie has grown up in the shelter from the age of 16 weeks and has curled up each night on a raised cot in a world of concrete and chain link. She is the longest resident of the shelter having been passed ... (Read More)over during the searches by thousands of visitors. Despite her beautiful brindle coat and pretty white feet, no one ever looks at Beanie for long. Her soft brown eyes hold the knowledge that this may be the only life she will ever have. Though she shows great love for the volunteers and staff that she knows and trusts, this is not an automatic response. Most dogs are unaffected by living in a kennel building either due to personality or quick adoptions but there are others which struggle. The kennel environment can take a dog without issues and create undesirable behaviors due to the confinement, the extreme noise level and the limited amount of people/dog interaction. If adoption were based solely on appearance, Beanie may have left the shelter long ago. But kennel life over time has challenged Beanie's ability to cope and when new people enter her world, they must do so with gentleness and the knowledge that her trust must be earned. If frightened by strangers or gestures, Beanie may lunge and snap. This behavior though rarely seen, has occurred with some men and occasionally with women. For this reason, Beanie will not be adopted to a home with children. She has spent time as of late in the home of a volunteer and this experience has evolved into being 95% housebroken, crate trained and highly protective of the home and everything therein. Additionally she has enjoyed playing with the many resident dogs of all sizes and genders, but unknown dogs entering the property will not be welcome as she takes seriously, her duty to protect. She must be confined to either a fenced yard, room or crate when strangers are present until she can see that they mean no harm. Only homes with a fenced yard and within a two hour drive of Sautee GA will be considered. Home visit before and after placement will be done. Potential adopters will receive a questionnaire to begin the adoption assessment for Beanie. Photos will be sent upon request which show the loving nature she shares with friends. Beanie has a sponsor whose donation has reduced her adoption fee to $25. (Less)

Black Mouth Cur Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Belle was pulled from kill facility-Animal Control in March 2014. She is a 2 years old and has required time to adjust to the changes in her life. She unfortunately receives little attention from shelter visitors and has been consistently passed over by adopters with little to no interest. Belle has become brave enough to approach new people which has been a monumental improvement as she worked to overcome whatever left such a profound influence on her ability to trust. Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Darla is a 1.5 yr old girl whose mother was a Catahoula. She entered the safety of the shelter in March 2014 as a 5 mon old pup having been removed from a kill facility. Darla has struggled from the beginning of her 10 months in our shelter, to be brave but at times it is just too much. The shelter environment has always overwhelmed her with it's often chaotic sounds and activity. Though her black coat is shiny and her pretty white paws and chest add to her beauty, she is always overlooked. She has a gentle spirit and grows more animated when taken away from the shelter for walks or just sitting with a volunteer in the woods. With the ... (Read More)season of miracles upon us, Darla is in danger of being another black dog without any possibility of ever being loved. Darla's adoption fee is $25. Darla is sponsored by Lorraine Newell in memory of Hella. American Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Allie is a 2 year old bulldog. She has been in shelter care for 14 months. Allie is a cautious girl who is willing to be friends upon feeling secure with newly met people. When Allie was about 8 mon old, the tilt to her head was noticed and diagnosed as mild facial nerve paralysis that fortunately posed no financial/medical intervention as she had adapted to the condition. She loves to play with dogs who are nice to her as well as people and children who will allow a few minutes to get acquainted. When not in receipt of momentary affection, Allie's eyes show the longing for companionship that would not come in just minutes and would surround ... With the season of miracles upon us, Allie will wait and watch the steady of stream of visitors with a longing in her heart that forever companionship could also be hers this year. Rescue Me ID: 14-01-14-00434Smokey Joe (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Smokey Joe is a dog affected by experiences that left him frightened and presenting fear aggression upon arrival at the shelter. His fear of leashes was evident from the beginning, giving rise to great concern as to what he had experienced with them to cause such fearful reactions. The kennel environment has made it difficult for Joe to come around as is evidenced in the way he still presents to visitors by hurling himself at his kennel gate and also the outdoor fencing. This aggressive behavior which causes potential adopters to immediately dismiss him is a front for the 'inner' dog which is slowly emerging. After months of patience, gentle ... (Read More)handling, and a large supply of treats, Joe is showing that he again can have the trust for people that he had when first leaving the shelter as a happy puppy. Joe initially came into the shelter in Jan12 as part of a litter of 5 week old pups. He was adopted and after 15 months was returned to the shelter in Jul 13. Realizing that Joe's behaviors were based in fear has given those who care for him, the determination to work with Joe on his issues of trusting people. Joe has a sweet and goofy personality that is seen by staff and volunteers. A dog that is so excited when in the company of his people friends that he wiggles and whimpers with joy at an ear scratch, a belly rub, a sloppy exchange of kisses. Joe is hesitant to show this side of his personality with people he has never met but with various lengths of time, he will warm to people that he senses are not a threat to him. Joe will be a wonderful companion, friend and protector of the person(s) willing and capable of offering Joe a home in which he can thrive. Photos of Joe with one of his volunteer friends show the relaxed side of the goofy boy caught up in the pleasure of receiving the affection he craves. Joe will require a fenced yard and a strong person to join him on leashed walks. He weighs about 60 lbs. He is good with some dogs and plays best with those of a size that will not be run over by his strength. An adult only household is being sought. His reaction to cats at rest or in motion is unknown. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccines and heartworm negative. There have been no incidents or indications that Joe has issues with children. However, he will not be placed in a home with young children. Careful scrutiny of potential adopters will take place through extensive screening, a check of veterinarian references and home visits before and after placement. Joe is a good dog.To follow Joe's adoption journey and to see more photos LIKE us on: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=696999720344297&id=548822128495391 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-08-31-00134Grover (male)

Basset Hound    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Grover is a 9.5 years old classic basset hound who has been under shelter care for 16 months. He has been in recovery/rehab from neglect, isolation and bad treatment that occurred during the first 8.5 years of his life. Microchipped, housebroken, crate trained, playful, goofy, quiet. Loves to play with dogs. Very affectionate with his foster care provider. His medical needs and occasional behavior issues tend to overshadow his positives when being considered by potential adopters taken by his sweet mournful face. Potential to bite when strangers reach for his head and also when anyone including dogs come too close to his sleeping space. Will ... (Read More)require life long prescription eyedrops ($50 per month) twice daily to treat 'dry eye' which otherwise would result in painful decline to blindness. Must be muzzled for vet exams and nail clipping. Has a level 3 heart murmur, tendency towards ear infections. Issue in neck vertebrae occasionally causes pain requiring medication. Being a true basset, Grover needs frequent bathing. He is terrified of thunder, fireworks, gunshots, and the sound of moderate rain and wind. Adoptive home must be able to keep Grover as an indoor dog. Will not be adopted to homes with children. Would do best in a home where there is someone home all day who can provide a calm environment. Grover requires an adopter experienced with senior dogs having lifelong issues from years of bad treatment. Also must be able to recognize, treat and afford his current and potential medical issues. Adopter will have lifelong backup boarding care from current foster care provider. Grover cannot be put inside any form of kennel run as they terrify him and he will become aggressive. Must always be on leash when being walked. Fenced yard is required as bassets follow their noses and roam into trouble. Grover has his own facebook page with many videos and photos, https://www.facebook.com/grover.basset?ref=hl With the season of miracles upon us, Grover waits patiently for that special person who has the skills and love to accommodate an aging hound with many medical/behavioral issues. He would be delighted to have a doggie playmate. Grover's adoption fee is $25. Grover is sponsored by Lorraine Newell in memory of Hella.
