https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.872311996146401.1073741862.548822128495391 Kenny is a 20 week old (as of Jul 23) puppy that was pulled from Animal Control in June. He was adopted on 18 Jul and returned 22 Jul. Having a shelter dog returned after a very short period of time rarely has a dramatic effect. Not so when puppy Kenny was returned to the shelter after a 4 day adoption. He was devastated. Head down, turning inward as he lay in his run with a slow almost low crawl to each caring staff member who would come to comfort him. His broken puppy heart left us all in overwhelming sadness. During that brief time as part of a family, ... (Read More)he had come to love the people that entered his life. He did not understand why he was back and his sorrow was evident. Kenny was returned for jumping on the older arthritic dog in the family as he desired to engage him in play. Kenny is about 34 lbs. He will be a big dog when fully grown. And he wears his heart outwardly for all to see. Photos on 22 Jul were difficult to take as he did not wish to raise his face and he wanted only to bury his head in the arms of those consoling him. The adoption approval process for all of our dogs begins by submitting the Pre Adoption Questionnaire which is on the facebook page. For additional information on animals, adoption process/requirements and fees, call the shelter administrative office at 706-865-4135. Rescue Me ID: 15-07-08-00386Benny (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Charles Smithgall Humane Society and Adoption Center Page Liked January 2 Edited Benny is a 16 mon old catahoula mix with pretty merle ears/markings. He has been under shelter care for 14 months since arriving in May 2014 at 8 weeks of age. When he was a little chubby puppy there were numerous adopters interested in him but none of them wanted to undertake the surgical correction of his prolapsed tear duct (cherry eye). When he was old enough (17 weeks) to be neutered, the cherry eye was also corrected. Benny's heritage is that of a dog needing to be mentally and physically challenged thus he was suffering in the kennel ... (Read More)environment. He went into a temporary care home to acquire basic training needed to fit into a home environment. He is housebroken and crate trained. Friendly and playful with some dogs but not all. He also enjoys bath time and any activity involving a body of water. He is a very quiet dog when left alone. Enjoys riding in the car, hiking and being engaged in activity. Indifferent to cats. Benny would be a great active outdoor companion and indoor couch cuddler. He is attentive to training be it through adapting to the expectations of his temporary care home or when taking tips from Ceasar Milan on TV. He is very good with the commands of sit and stay. Walks nicely on leash. The approval process for Benny requires a home visit. There are also two videos under the video album. His personnel album is at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.985441938166739.1073741866.548822128495391&type=3 To view videos of Benny on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/985473458163587/?type=2&theater and also at : https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/985479051496361/?type=2&theater Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a 'No kill' shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines-deworming-vet exam-standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly prevention heart worm treatment. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-19-00743Allie and RJ

American Bulldog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

There once was was a lovely black and white bulldog named Allie. She wasn't always treated well and had to be very brave to overcome her past. But even though she learned to trust and love, her face was a bit crooked and at times, she would drool a little. One day she ran excitedly to greet a new visitor with a friendly face hoping that this might be the person for her. As she stood up against the fence with a hopeful heart, the friendly face disappeared when seeing a bit of drool beginning to fall and she backed away with a loud 'Ewwwwwww'. Allie dropped to the ground and hung her head in shame. She crept away in devastation at the ... (Read More)realization that she was looked upon with disgust. Despite many attempts to bring Allie's story to light, there were no adopters who had compassion for sweet Allie. Even Santa left her behind, again. Meanwhile, a very handsome white and black bulldog named RJ found himself discarded and sitting on death row. One day his misfortunes turned a corner and he came to live in the same sanctuary where sweet Allie held on to her dreams for a life of love. By chance, the confident and charismatic RJ was introduced to Allie in hopes that he would boost her spirits and be her friend. As they romped and played, RJ came to realize that this was no ordinary girl. He was smitten with her kind nature and loving spirit. His heart ached for her sadness that no one wanted her. He devoted himself to keeping her face clean from any traces of drool. He would step back to ensure that Allie was front and center when visitors came to look for a family member. And he kept her spirits high as they napped together in the daytime sun and communicated in doggie whispers to each other at night from their separate kennels, anticipating the next morning when they could again be together. To RJ, Allie is perfect. He does what he can to present her to everyone, the way he sees her, knowing that his heart will be broken when she leaves. Allie has waited a very long time for a person who will love her as devotedly as does RJ. RJ has waited through the cold winter months for his cheeky grin to captivate a human heart with the same intensity as when Allie so freely gave her heart to him. And maybe... just maybe...there could be a happily ever where two star crossed pups could defy the odds and find themselves together forever. Furry tails can come true. *Note: Allie has lived at the shelter since Sept 2013. RJ has been at the shelter since Dec 2014. Both are 2 years old. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Charles-Smithgall-Humane-Society-and-Adoption-Center/548822128495391 Fees are subsidized for both dogs. Rescue Me ID: 14-01-14-00434Smokey Joe (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Smokey Joe is a dog affected by experiences that left him frightened and presenting fear aggression upon arrival at the shelter. His fear of leashes was evident from the beginning, giving rise to great concern as to what he had experienced with them to cause such fearful reactions. The kennel environment has made it difficult for Joe to come around as is evidenced in the way he still presents to visitors by hurling himself at his kennel gate and also the outdoor fencing. This aggressive behavior which causes potential adopters to immediately dismiss him is a front for the 'inner' dog which is slowly emerging. After months of patience, gentle ... (Read More)handling, and a large supply of treats, Joe is showing that he again can have the trust for people that he had when first leaving the shelter as a happy puppy. Joe initially came into the shelter in Jan12 as part of a litter of 5 week old pups. He was adopted and after 15 months was returned to the shelter in Jul 13. Realizing that Joe's behaviors were based in fear has given those who care for him, the determination to work with Joe on his issues of trusting people. Joe has a sweet and goofy personality that is seen by staff and volunteers. A dog that is so excited when in the company of his people friends that he wiggles and whimpers with joy at an ear scratch, a belly rub, a sloppy exchange of kisses. Joe is hesitant to show this side of his personality with people he has never met but with various lengths of time, he will warm to people that he senses are not a threat to him. Joe will be a wonderful companion, friend and protector of the person(s) willing and capable of offering Joe a home in which he can thrive. Photos of Joe with one of his volunteer friends show the relaxed side of the goofy boy caught up in the pleasure of receiving the affection he craves. Joe will require a fenced yard and a strong person to join him on leashed walks. He weighs about 60 lbs. He is good with some dogs and plays best with those of a size that will not be run over by his strength. An adult only household is being sought. His reaction to cats at rest or in motion is unknown. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccines and heartworm negative. There have been no incidents or indications that Joe has issues with children. However, he will not be placed in a home with young children. Careful scrutiny of potential adopters will take place through extensive screening, a check of veterinarian references and home visits before and after placement. Joe is a good dog.
