Rescue Me ID: 16-06-24-00140Chili (female)

Bullmastiff Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Possible that Chili is a Cane Corso mix but the breed is not on the drop down. *Chili has been sponsored therefore her subsidized adoption fee is $25** Chili is big 70lb girl with sad eyes and a gentle spirit when outside and not feeling the confinements of her run. She had puppies before her arrival in March 2015 and her body was hanging from what looked to be the nursing of several large litters in her young life. She responds to basic commands. There is a video of her with her friend Buddy in the Video Album on Facebook. She does not do well with small dogs. Arrived 6 Mar 2015. Her adoption fee is $25. Video at: ... Rescue Me ID: 16-06-23-00103Smokey Joe (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Smokey Joe has been a resident of our small shelter in the NE GA mountains for 3 years. We are 'off the beaten path' so rely heavily on social media and the sharing efforts of compassionate people to help us place our residents. We have a thorough adoption approval process to ensure our residents are going into safe and appropriate homes where the adopter commits to returning the pet to us regardless of circumstances or time since the adoption took place. Smokey Joe was initially adopted as a young puppy in 2012 and returned after 15 months with the reason being the other household dog antagonized Joe and the constant friction motivated ... (Read More)the owner to relinquish Joe as he was the last to arrive. He arrived with some reactive fear behaviors that were overcome when with staff and volunteers who earned his trust. He does not show well in the small confines of his kennel run as he will bark aggressively and look scary. Several of our other dogs who are friendly but act like jerks in their kennels will exhibit this same behavior when strangers near their kennel space. He spends 22 hours a day in this kennel run so is most frequently seen there, where his behavior is often misleading With the staff members and volunteers who are his friends, he is joyous, happy and devoted. These are the people he knows and trusts. Photos in his FB album and a link to a video of Joe playing with his care provider can be viewed at: https://www.facebook.com/Charles-Smithgall-Humane-Society-and-Adoption-Center-548822128495391/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1065721743472091 . He has had a difficult time appealing to visitors because he must be allowed time to form a relationship and to know that a new person in his life will not do him harm. Joe is a shepherd/catahoula mix who is 4 1/2 years old. He has waited longer than any of our residents to be offered a home where he is loved and safe. Three years is a long time to live 22 hours a day in a kennel run. Joe will not be adopted to homes with children. A fenced yard will be required to keep Joe safe and because he will be protective of his people and property. Indications are that Joe is afraid of cats. We know he is good with female dogs but we are uncertain as to how he will react to male dogs as we rarely pair grown males together outside for their 2 hours of minimally supervised play time. Joe has a sponsor who subsidized his fee to $25. American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Updated 29 May 2016. Buddy has a sponsor who subsidized his fee to $25. He has many photos and 4 videos on our FB page at: https://www.facebook.com/Charles-Smithgall-Humane-Society-and-Adoption-Center-548822128495391/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1066878093356456. Buddy will have been under shelter care for two years in July 2016. In June 2014, Buddy wandered into a neighborhood where his pleasant and affable nature resulted in a collective effort to care for him until space opened in the shelter. He came under our care in Jul 2014. Buddy is a beautiful bulldog with regal bearing who is of medium sized build. With his human friends he would ... (Read More)like to be a lap dog! He loves being out and walking/hiking/playing. He looks forward every day to be reunited outside with his friend Chili who is almost twice his size but is an ideal companion. Happy to go joy riding in a car. He is 3.5 years old and weighs 45 lbs. He takes daily medication to keep allergies in control that would otherwise cause skin and ear issues. Buddy is afraid of cats and would have a much happier home experience without them. Buddy has 4 videos at: https://www.facebook.com/Charles-Smithgall-Humane-Society-and-Adoption-Center-548822128495391/videos . Videos and photos show his enjoyment of friendly dogs and people from his young friend receiving the face washing to his more 'mature' friends who give in to his desire to play or allow him to cuddle in a lap. Buddy has a sponsor who subsidized his adoption fee to $25. All adoptions require an approval process which begins with the Pre-Adoption Questionnaire (cats and dogs each have a form): https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391&type=3 . We do adopt out of state but all approved adopters must come to the shelter to meet their chosen dog/cat and provide the transport to their new home. We do not ship/transport our residents. All adopters must agree to return any animal adopted from us if for any reason they can no longer care for that animal under the expectations agreed upon at the time of adoption. American Shorthair Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Priya is subsidized by a friend lowering her fee to $20. Priya arrived almost 2 years ago. She is the cat that never receives a second glance, that never receives an inquiry, that is never wanted. She is a young regal tuxedo girl. Priya was surviving on the streets of Atlanta with obvious unfriendly interactions from people/animals prior to her capture(with 3 kittens) and arrival at our shelter in May 2014. A compassionate local resident living part time in Atlanta asked that we give her a chance. Her fear was overwhelming of us and initially of the other cats. Priya seemed to live in terror for the next episode that would threaten her ... (Read More)safety. Trusting and feeling secure were not part of Priya's history. In time she would be able to endure and then accept the kindness extended to her by people and the friendship extended by the cats. (She can be seen grooming Danny in a private moment ). She is growing in confidence and has begun to seek the attention of some of our visitors. Life was not kind to Priya for the first year of her life but two years among friends is giving her the ability to enjoy attention and reciprocate with mutual affection. She is not going to run to visitors looking for a relationship. Like other cats of her background, she will need to first acclimate to a home and then in her time, she will seek the attention of the person who becomes part of her life. Priya has a video at: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/1068611633183102/?type=3&theater. She is spayed, fully vaccinated and negative for the cat diseases of FIV & FeLV. We have an approval process to ensure our residents are going into safe and appropriate homes. The initiating form is at the shelter and also can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/1048365778541021/?type=3&theater. Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Benny is a 2 yr old boy with pretty merle ears/markings. He has been with us almost 2 years, since May 2014. When he arrived at 8 weeks of age as a chubby puppy there were numerous adopters interested in him but none of them wanted to undertake the surgical correction of his prolapsed tear duct (cherry eye). When he was neutered, the cherry eye was also corrected. He is housebroken and crate trained. Friendly and playful with some dogs but not all. Benny is strong and jumps on people in his excitement, therefore an adult only home is advised. He also enjoys bath time and any activity involving a body of water. He previously spent some ... (Read More)time at home with a volunteer to acquire his in-house skills so we have current knowledge of what an adopter can expect with Benny. Bath time video can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/985479051496361/?type=2&theater Enjoys riding in the car, hiking and being engaged in activity. Indifferent to cats. Benny is a great active outdoor companion and indoor couch cuddler. He is attentive to training and can be seen watching a Cesar Milan training video at: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/985473458163587/?type=2&theater . He is very good with the commands of sit and stay. Walks nicely on leash. All adoptions require an approval process which begins with the Pre-Adoption Questionnaire which can be found at the link of the top post on our facebook page.
