Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Angel has a sponsor who subsidized her adoption fee to $25. Angel is a 1 year old retriever mix golden girl. Angel arrived in Jan 2015, with 3 litter mates. She had a 2.5 mon adoption and was returned in Nov. for playing to rough with the senior dog in the household causing her to fall over. She plays nicely with the shelter dogs outside but is very energetic and can overpower some dogs with her enthusiasm. Photo available from a recent overnight stay in a home with 3 dogs. Her eyes have lost some of their sparkle as she longs for the companionship of someone who will give her the love that seems to elude her. Angel's adoption fee is $25. ... (Read More) All adoptions require an approval process which begins with the Pre-Adoption Questionnaire (cats and dogs each have a form): https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/984873884890211/?type=3&theater .We do adopt out of state but all approved adopters must come to the shelter to meet their chosen dog/cat and provide the transport to their new home. We do not ship/transport our residents. All adopters must agree to return any animal adopted from us if for any reason they can no longer care for that animal under the expectations agreed upon at the time of adoption.     Chocko is a happy, goofy lovable one year old lover boy. With his pronounced under-bite it would be fitting to rename him Mugsy. Loves children and has been known to happily lay on his back in the lap of one of our younger volunteers while covering her face in happy kisses. He enjoys playing with other dogs but will also amuse himself by throwing toys in the air to catch. Chocko was very scared when he arrived in Oct 2015 and could only stop trembling when encircled within the arms of staff and volunteers who hugged and reassured him. Chocko is very energetic and loves to run. He will do best in a home that has a secure physically fenced ... (Read More)yard to keep him safe when outside during play and exercise time. Hershey has been so sad since her arrival as she was accustomed to lots of love, a warm comfy bed and the company of cats who she adored. Life's changes have been hard for Hershey and she doesn't understand how she has come to be within concrete walls on a lonely cot.     Priya is the cat that no one wants. She is a young regal tuxedo girl whose fee is sponsored to $20. She might well be our most challenging kitty in need of a loving and patient home. Priya was surviving on the streets of Atlanta with obvious unfriendly interactions from people/animals prior to her capture and arrival at our shelter in May 2014. A compassionate local resident living part time in Atlanta asked that we give her a chance. Her fear was overwhelming of us and initially of the other cats. Priya seemed to live in terror for the next episode that would threaten her safety. Trusting and feeling secure were not part of Priya's history. ... (Read More)In time she would be able to endure and then accept the kindness extended to her by people and the friendship extended by the cats. While considered by staff to have come so far, her journey is a work in progress which will not come full circle until settled into the environment which is to be her home. She is not going to jump into open arms nor is she going to immediately show the purring affectionate behaviors so desired by people who love the presence of a cat in their life. For Priya, to find her home would be one of the greatest miracles that could occur among our residents. Life was not kind to her and she does the best she can to believe in goodness. Priya is 2.5 years old. She came to us in May 2014. Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Benny has a sponsor who subsidized his fee to $25. Benny is a 1.5 yr old catahoula mix with pretty merle ears/markings. He has been under shelter care for 1.5 years since arriving in May 2014 at 8 weeks of age. When he was a little chubby puppy there were numerous adopters interested in him but none of them wanted to undertake the surgical correction of his prolapsed tear duct (cherry eye). When he was old enough (17 weeks) to be neutered, the cherry eye was also corrected. He went into a temporary care home so was able to have training in the skills desired for household living. He is housebroken and crate trained. Friendly and playful ... (Read More)with some dogs but not all. Benny is strong and can play too rough for young children, therefore an adult only home is advised. He also enjoys bath time and any activity involving a body of water.Bath time video can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/985479051496361/?type=2&theater He is a very quiet dog when left alone. Enjoys riding in the car, hiking and being engaged in activity. Indifferent to cats. Is good with most dogs. Benny would be a great active outdoor companion and indoor couch cuddler. He is attentive to training and can be seen watching a Cesar Milan training video at: https://www.facebook.com/548822128495391/videos/vb.548822128495391/985473458163587/?type=2&theater . Walks nicely on leash. Benny's adoption fee is $65. Should that fee be lowered due to having a sponsor, we will post that update. All adoptions require an approval process which begins with the Pre-Adoption Questionnaire which can be found at the link of the top post on our facebook page. We do adopt out of state but all approved adopters must come to the shelter to meet their chosen dog/cat and provide the transport to their new home. We do not ship/transport our residents. Rescue Me ID: 15-12-15-00404Smokey Joe (male)

Mountain Cur Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Smokey Joe is a handsome boy turned hard to adopt by long term confinement in the kenneled atmosphere of our shelter. Having been with us now for 2-1/2 years, Joe has waited the longest of all our dogs for someone to offer him the life that will restore him to the carefree puppy that he once was before life's turns brought him to a cot in a small concrete space. When Joe was a tiny ball of fur baby, he and his 5 abandoned littermates were very desirable to adopters and he quickly was placed. Fifteen months later and a strong full grown boy, Joe was returned because the other dog in the house continually antagonized him and the nonstop ... (Read More)disputes were more than the owner could endure. As the other dog had been there first, Joe was the one chosen to go. He was returned in June 2013. He is now 4 years old Joe came back to us with a fear of leashes that required patience of each staffer/walker to win his trust. When he is with his favorite staff volunteer, he wiggles and whimpers with joy and one can see the glimpse of the younger Joe that has been mostly lost along his journey to where he is now. Joe is a strong dog weighing in at 77 lbs. He is good with most dogs and plays best with those of a size that will not be run over by his strength. An adult only household is being sought preferably in a female only household as he has shown himself to be at his best when under the gentle touch of women that gain his trust. We will however consider any adult household as Joe has friends among the men who walk and spend time with him. Joe will be a loyal and protective companion who will give his life to protect the person he loves. Joe is one of several dogs in our shelter who do not present well in their kennel run as it is their space and they show a level of defensive behaviors when strangers come close to the only thing they have that is theirs. He is a different dog when running free in the play yards and he is a big puppy when cuddling with his favorite female friend, shown in several of his photos. Very few people see the heart of Joe, the longing in his eyes to have a friend that will never leave him. His reality is long hours on a cot, alone and waiting for his two hours of freedom outside each day if the weather is good. Miracles have a way of happening for difficult to place dogs like Joe. He has waited so long for that person meant for him, to find him. There have been many hard to adopt dogs at our shelter yet every one has at some point, had their person appear who restored them to a complete life. Joe is facing his third Christmas without a home.Smokey Joe has a sponsor who has subsidized his adoption fee to $25. A fenced yard is required for Joe.
