Rescue Me ID: 17-01-22-00046Simon (male)

Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We are requesting input as to Simon's heritage from experienced Shar pei people. So far as of Jan 21, 2 have stated he is a mix and 1 has stated he is purebred. If he is a mix, we do not know the contributing other half. With his wrinkly brow and super sized muzzle, Simon has been a head turner since his arrival this past week. Simon is a young 45 pound boy deep chocolate shar pei mix who is gentle and calm. Upon intake, he was reported to be friendly with dogs. He is in 10 day quarantine and will soon be neutered. He cannot leave the shelter until his recovery period is complete. He has been very friendly and sweet with staff and ... (Read More)volunteers. We do not know if he was housebroken, crate trained, cat and/or child friendly in his former life. We do not know what other breed (s) may be part of his heritage nor his exact age though his teeth indicate him to be a young adult. Chocolate brown is one of the coat colors for the shar pei breed. As we learn more about behaviors and vetting outcomes, his profile will be updated. All applicants wishing to be considered for adoption must complete the application form (request with email) which initiates the approval process. The form can be returned through Facebook Messages or at the office of the shelter. Australian Kelpie Mix    Age: Young Adult

https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/33725986 Video at Petfinder link. Bentley is a Home for the Holidays dog as he has waited 1 year for a home. Bentley spends 22 hours a day inside a run looking out at the world and waiting for the 2 hours of freedom in the play yards if weather is good. This has been his world for a year. In this season of Christmas miracles, we have great hopes that Bentley will be chosen to have a home and end his long wait to have love in his life. Bentley is sponsored with a subsidized fee of $25. Tagged as Special Needs only because of being in shelter care over one year. Bentley came to us in Nov 2015. He struggled ... (Read More)at losing his family where he had been enmeshed as a family member with full couch privileges and the perception that the love he gave them, would be returned in kind forever. Only one year old when the family needs shifted and he was no longer wanted, Bentley came to us and slowly adjusted to life in concrete and chain link where his comfy couch was replaced by a vinyl cot. Bentley is an often goofy boy with a joyous spirit that shines when with people, children and dogs wishing to play with him. For awhile he derived great happiness from his daily two hours outside with his friend Angel who frolicked with him and allowed him to feel loved by her. Angel was adopted leaving Bentley once again with that feeling of losing love and struggling to move forward. Bentley once eagerly viewed visitors with great hopes that maybe they had come to play with him and that when they left, he would be with them. His hopes seem to have diminished as week after week, it is another dog who leaves and Bentley once again, returns to his lonely cot where he can only dream of the love that once warmed his heart. Bentley was 2 years old. as of Oct 2016. There are 37 breeds which have the genetic trait of full or spotted black tongue so his heritage has many options which can be factored in for that feature of his happy smile. He is practically perfect in every way. When relinquished he was reported to be housebroken and crate trained. He is greatly loved by staff and volunteers for his loving appreciation of their attention. He has a sponsor who subsidized his fee to $25. There is a video on the shelter FB page of Bentley playing with Angel. The application form and info about adoption procedures are at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/1271213192922944/?type=3&theater Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a 'No kill' shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines-deworming-vet exam-standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly prevention heart worm treatment. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-26-00317Smokey Joe (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/26506831 Video at Petfinder link. Smokey Joe is a Home for the Holidays dog as he has waited 3 1/2 years for a home. Smokey Joe spends 22 hours a day inside a run looking out at the world and waiting for the 2 hours of freedom in the play yards if weather is good. This has been his world for 3 1/2 years. In this season of Christmas miracles, we have great hopes that Smokey Joe will be chosen to have a home and end his long wait to have love in his life. Smokey Joe is sponsored with a subsidized fee of $25. Tagged as Special Needs only because of being in shelter care over one year. Joe (age 5yrs) has ... (Read More)waited the longest of all our dogs for the person(s) and home that has eluded him. He lives for the moments that a staff member can play with him or that a volunteer can walk him in the neighboring woods. When weather is good, he has 2 hours outside to run within the fenced play yard. The other 22 hours are spent in a kennel run, waiting...hoping...for the person who never comes. He initially came in as a tiny puppy, was adopted and returned fifteen months later in June 2013. He was returned because the other dog in the house continually attacked him. Joe came back to us with a fear of leashes that subsided with time and patience of each those who earned his trust. When he is with his favorite people, he wiggles with joy and one can see the glimpse of the younger Joe who believed in love and forever companionship. Joe is a strong dog weighing in at 77 lbs. An adult only household is being sought with an experienced dog person. Potential adopters are evaluated carefully as we know that there are a limited amount of people with the dog savvy experience required to share life with Joe. To date, we have not been able to find that person(s). Joe will be a loyal and protective companion who will give his life to defend the person he loves. A secure fenced yard is required for Joe. Joe was housetrained before relinquishment but unknown how quickly he will remember those skills. His friendliness towards cats in motion is unknown. Our Adoption Process Our adoption process begins with the submission of a Pre-Adoption Questionnaires (PAQ) which is used to gather information and initiate conversation with the adopting person/family. The form also assists us with assessing the environment for suitability and safety in the placement of our residents. The PAQ is the first step in the approval process, followed by veterinarian reference check, landlord approval confirmation if relevant and a home visit which may be done physically or virtually depending on the distance from the shelter. The approval process can be initiated before or after visiting our residents. The PAQ is located on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/984873884890211/?type=3&theater. There are separate forms for dogs and cats. Requirements for adoption are specific to the needs of the animal in addition to standard checks for safety issues. Adopters must come to the shelter once approved to take their adopted pet home. We do not ship nor do we transport. Submitting the form is neither a guarantee of adoption nor an entitlement to 'first come, first served' in the selection process of safely and appropriately placing our residents. Decision to approve/not approve an adopter is based on the needs of the dog, not the needs of the adopter. The completed form can be returned by emailing to: smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net or delivery to the shelter. The process usually takes 1 to 2 business days but can be slowed by not completing all of the questions, difficulty in reaching people relevant to approval and scheduling a home visit. Our residents must be returned to us at any point in time if the adoption is no longer suitable/safe for the pet or circumstances have changed to where a new home is needed. A contract must be signed to complete the adoption process. We will allow a temporary adoption period of up to two weeks to make the decision as to permanent adoption. Our Adoption Center is located at 4823 Helen Hwy (75N), Sautee GA 30571. Contact info: 706-865-4135, smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net.
